Special Parents of Exceptional Children Trying to Research and Understand More

SPECTRUM began when the Oak Ridge Preschool offered us a location for our group meetings. Parents in the school who had children with autistic characteristics started meeting and discussing their challenges. We began to network and research. The research we came across gave us great hope that there were interventions that would have a great effect on the severity of our children's health and behaviors. The DAN (Devour Autism Now) protocol, as well as the work of many amazing parents that have walked our walk in the past, gave us a greater understanding of the biochemical processes that keep our children from a normal life. They also gave information on how to help these problems.

Autism affects every child differently, with varying levels of severity. We hope to bring a realistic level of hope to the newly diagnosed. We hope to bring the resources that we found helpful together in one place. Not every intervention works for every child, but the research is there to help you to help your child as much as possible. Unfortunately, many physicians still have autism in a box, a box that they have no idea how to open. Sadly, there may be some children that make minimum gains very slowly. However, it is important to remember that progress at any speed is a wonderful experience. Enjoy your child and enjoy your life with that child. If there is anything that you want to see on here or think can be helpful to other parents please email us and we will do what we can to get the information out to all. SPECTRUM is now a group of parents that network and support each other, although we have been attending another Support Group to supplement our meetings.
