THIS WEEK: Today is April Fools Day and the program is by the Rev. Larry Orr.                       

 

NEXT WEEK: Harris Lovingood, Chair of the Spiritual Aims Committee has invited Gary Kodman the Commissioned Lay Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church to bring the message.

 

April Birthdays: April 2-Henry Ridenour, April 12-Orren Hyman, April 14-Roger Aultman, April 27- Dianne Allison and Bryan Chambers.

 

THE MEMBERSHIP AND ATTENDANCE CONTEST:

                        As of March 25, Charles’ team had a score of: 140, Tonya’s team had 117, and Jack Swann’s team had 96.

 

INTER-CLUB ACTIVITY:

                         Last Week we had an Inter-Club visit from the Tellico Village Kiwanis Club composed of Dick Cross, Paul Thornton, Jim Poole and Al Porell. I have had no reports of any of our visits.

 

NOTES:           Last week school was out for Spring Break and there were no Key Club nor Builders Club members present.

The Board of Directors will meet on the fourth Tuesday of April (the 27th) in the Sweetwater Hospital Meeting Room for lunch and the April meeting.

 

The Membership and Attendance Contest will run from March 1 through April 30, with

3 teams, led by 1-Tonya Burke, 2-Charles Ridenour and 3-Jack Swann.

 

The Golf Tournament is being planned at the Spring Brook Country Club, April 14. The Road Block for the Children’s Miracle Network is scheduled for April 17, with a rain date of May 1.

 

MARCH 25, 2004

                        Last week we had an Inter-Club from Madisonville composed of Don Edmonds, Joyce McWilliams, Bob Wendt, and our Lt-Gov. Jimmy Nokes. With the attendance Contest in full swing, I don’t believe any body will report any Inter-Club more visits until after April 30.

 

NOTES:           Last week the sponsored Youth were introduced as follows Key Club members:

Chantia Rowe and Ruby Robinson both in 12th grade, there were no Builders Club members present.

                        The Board of Directors met Tuesday, the 23rd. at SHA, and heard the Treasurer report

Pan Cake breakfast will net over $1,200 and more when all the ticket sales money is turned in. The Board approved several written requests for funds: $175 to continue the Kiwanis Sign at the High School Baseball and Softball field, $50 to the Sweetwater Fire Department to buy supplies for Fire Prevention Week; and $25 to the Monroe County Rescue Squad for supplies.

The Membership and Attendance Contest will run from March 1 through April 30, with

LAST WEEK:  Delicious Kiwanis Pancakes were served in the SWEETWATER HIGH SCHOOL LUNCH ROOM from 6:AM to 9AM. Then some Kiwanians attended the Round Table at Noon. I have sold all my tickets, somebody please remind me to turn in the ticket money! We need a report!!

KIWANIS CONVENTIONS: The 89th Kiwanis International Convention is to be in St, Louis, Missouri, on June 26-29, 2004. The Kentucky Tennessee District Convention is scheduled August 13-15, 2004 at Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tennessee.

                       

Our Kiwanis Golf Tournament is scheduled at the Springbrook Country Club, April 14, and volunteers are needed to help on that Wednesday afternoon.

LAST WEEK: The “TRUTH” or a “LIE” was an entertaining concept for a program and Tonya Burke did a great job in carrying it out.

             

THIS WEEK:   The program for today is to be presented by the East Tennessee Historical Society.                                                                                                                                                                                                

 

NEXT WEEK: Rob Preston, Boy Scout Executive, will be our speaker.

INTER-CLUB ACTIVITY (4 for February):

                        Two weeks ago one to Madisonville – names are not available; and on February 17, President Susie, Bobbie Davis, Bettie Wilson, and Ivan Worrell went to the Tellico Village Club; and that night President Susie, Howard Clutter, Lt-Gov Jimmy Nokes, and Jack Swann visited the Oak Ridge Club and claimed credit for two visits, (over 50 miles). There will be many more in March and April because of the contest beginning March 1. (Lets try to out do the Tellico Village Club.)

 

NOTES:  Last week the sponsored Youth were introduced as follows Key Club members: Amy Anderson and Kelly Lane, and the Builders Club members: Josh Berrong and Madison Hendricks.

The Kiwanis Directors met Tuesday, February 24, at the Sweetwater Hospital meeting room. A quorum was present and they approved the reports of the Treasurer and of the Secretary.

 

Committee reports came next and produced lots of interest and discussion: For example a Membership and Attendance Contest will run from March 1 through April 30, with three teams, to be led by 1-Tonya Burke, 2-Charles Ridenour and 3-Jack Swann; a Golf Tournament is being planned at the Spring Brook Country Club, April 14. The Road Block for the Children’s Miracle Network is scheduled for April 17, with May 1 being the rain date.  Other actions may be reported today.

LAST WEEK:  The winners of the 4-H Club Speaking Competitions: Ross Houston 5th Grade Virginia Houston 11th Grade, were introduced by 4-H Judge Ruth Henderson, of Philadelphia, TN.  She is a retired Professor from The University of Tennessee’s College of Agriculture.

 

THIS WEEK:   To Be Announced. (The program Chairman told me last Thursday that he was working on it, and had to make some phone calls to confirm it.)

Fred Troutman, Editor of the K-T Notes, has asked for photos of participants in the

Program last week and I have e-mailed him several photos for the April issue of K-T Notes.

                        Thanks are due to Treasurer Howard Clutter for the breakdown of the dues payment to Kiwanis International, payable on April 1st, and October 1st.The breakdown follows:  International Dues, $21 per member; Kiwanis Magazine $5 per member, Kiwanis Liability $5.95 each, KY-TN District Dues $10 per member for a total $41.95 per member, semi-annually.

 

My February issue of the Kiwanis Magazine has arrived with several good articles, be sure to read all the items in the Roundtable on Page 4.

Lt-Gov Jimmy Nokes held a Division 4 Council Meeting at Clinton on Saturday, January 17, 2004.  With him from Sweetwater he had President Susie Bledsoe, Past Lt.-Governors Howard Clutter and Harris Lovingood and Past Governor Charles Ridenour. It was over 50 miles, one way, and we get credit for two Inter-Club meetings.

                       

Last week our speaker, Shan Harris from the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce outlined an exciting program for the Chamber for 2004.

 

Sponsored Youth: Ralph Depew introduced Key Club members: Crystal Allen and Neyrissa Best and Builders Club Members: Julia Newman and Julia Hughes.

 

The Board of Directors of our Club with the Officers  and lots of the Committee Chairmen met at the Sweetwater Hospital  Conference Room Tuesday, Jan. 27, for the January meeting. There were lots of reports on what is happening and being planned, Here are just some of the high-lights; we need to have another Dove Hunt next Year, our Project account is down, even though we did well with the Cheese and Pie Sales, both of them only made about one third of what we get from the Dove Hunt. A search is under way for a good place for to have it. We are planning to have a Pan Cake Breakfast this Spring at an appropriate time. Other plans are in the works.

LAST WEEK:   Our program was the “River Ridge Environmental Center” at the John Knox Center on Watts Bar Lake. Director Spencer Parks brought several animals, including a “corn” snake, three-toed box turtles, a fat tailed gecko, and a puff dragon to display. Last year schools from five states brought a total of 4000 students for study. The Center is online: http://www.johnknoxcenter.org/.

 LAST WEEK:  About 50 fourth graders from the Sweetwater Elementary School presented a delightful Christmas Program under the direction of Steve Riddle.

 

THIS WEEK: We will have a Spiritual Aims Program under the direction of Keith and Anne Wheeler.

 

NEXT TWO WEEKS: We will meet on Tuesday Dec.23, and on Dec. 30 for Round Table Meetings.

The December Board Meeting regularly scheduled for the 4th Tuesday of the month met on the 3rd Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the SHA meeting room., with good reports and some action.

 

Week before last week (Dec. 4) there were Builders Club members present at the

meeting named Karleigh Robin and Abby Sharp, and the Key Club members present were Sarah Farley and Ruby Robinson. Now for last week (Dec. 11) I need help – Ralph said he had their names and I took their pictures but when I asked Ralph for their names, and he had given them away to the students for the introductions.

LAST WEEK:  Allen Scott, a CPA who lives in Sweetwater, brought us up to date on the effects of the changes in the income tax laws.

 

THIS WEEK:  Sweetwater Elementary School will present a Christmas Program with Music.

 

The educator is Betti Wilson who will speak about “What is Young Children Priority One?

LAST WEEK:  Was Thanksgiving Week.  We met at Noon on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Dinner Bell.  Members of the Board of Directors had their monthly meeting at the same time. The previously ordered pies were distributed.

NOTES:      The Annual Christmas Parade sponsored by our club went on as scheduled on Tuesday Night, December 2.  It was a great Parade. Thanks to Charles and Harris and to all who helped in any way to make this parade such a great start to the holiday season.

THIS WEEK: This week is Thanksgiving Week.  We will meet at Noon on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003,at the Dinner Bell.  The Board of Directors will meet concurrently.

 

NOTES: The Annual Christmas Parade sponsored by our club is Tuesday, December 2, at 7:00PM. Volunteer helpers are needed, so sign up today.
