Tennessee Take-Offs was founded in July 1990. Annette Adams (daughter of Billy Cozart) named the club. The first Club President was Doll Thompson, followed by Terry Robertson. The club started with six members, and has grown to around fifty.

Don Stastny, John Nipper, and Doug Tate built the original club shelter, fence, and other facilities. In 2000 the facilities were upgraded, doubling the shelter size, adding the long bench, upgrading the fence, installing and painting the spools, and the addition of a weathervane. This was a collective club effort, financed by donations and volunteer labor. In 2001, a helicopter hovering area was designated, additional fence was added, and a portable restroom was provided during the most active flying seasons.

Typically there are two annual picnics — one in the spring and one in the fall — to bring together all of the club members and provide fellowship among area flyers and prospective flyers.
