TASL will soon be accepting nominations for the Innovative Library Media Award for 2009. Library media specialists have developed outstanding creative programs and should be honored for these dynamic ideas. The award will recognize an innovative program at the elementary, middle, and high school level. All TASL members are eligible, and each recipient will receive $500.00 at the 2009 TASL conference.
The 2008 Innovative Library Award winner is:Amelia designed a reading program in which students had ample access to library books during their lunch periods. Glenwood students used the ten to fifteen minutes at the end of lunch to read books. Those reading materials were organized by homeroom and placed alongside the windows of the cafeteria.
TASL Innovative Library Media Award Application
Library media specialists have developed outstanding creative programs and should be honored for these dynamic ideas. The TASL award will recognize an innovative program at the elementary, middle, and high school level that has been implement during the current school year. For the purpose of this award, a “program” is defined as “a plan of action designed to meet a specific need while promoting reading or library media services.” “Innovative” is described as “being outside the normal practice.” Participation in the program should be voluntary and not part of the scheduled library instruction.
The library media specialist who developed and implemented the innovative program must submit the award application. All TASL members are eligible. Each award recipient will receive $500.00 at the annual TASL conference. If there are no applications meeting the criteria, no award will be presented.
Each application should include
1. Applicant’s name, home address, school, school address/phone, principal’s name.
2. Narrative description of your project, not more than three pages. This should consist of the project name and a description of the activity in full, including but not limited to the following:
a. What need did the project address? What were its objectives?
b. What was innovative about the way this project promoted reading or library media services?
c. Who were your target group/audience and what percentage of this group voluntarily participated?
3. Visual media to verify the project. Acceptable visual media include:
sample of student product, power point, slide show, digital photographs, video recording, pod cast, or other formats not to exceed three minutes in length. These may be submitted on a CD/DVD or may be printed for submission, but may not exceed three pages.
All submissions become the property of TASL and will not be returned.
