1. GET CONNECTED & LET POLICY MAKERS KNOW HOW YOU FEEL: People of faith can make a difference! Even a handful of prayerful letters can have a profound effect on legislators. Send an email to etnleaf@yahoo.com, to be on LEAF’s e-mail list. We will contact you when letters need to be written to public officials. Check the website frequently for updates and Action Alerts to stay informed about issues that will impact Tennessee’s mountains, our children’s health, and struggling rural communities.

  2. EDUCATE YOURSELF: There are several steps you can take to become better informed about mountaintop removal and other environmental stewardship issues here in Tennessee.
    1. View Kilowatt Ours, as an introduction to the issue
    2. Read the article Moving Mountains by Erik Reece
    3. If you have access to Google Earth on your computer, type in “Ary, Kentucky” and view the devastation of Kentucky’s mountains for yourself. Seeing is believing.
    4. Check out other websites.

  3. CONSERVE:
    1. Get serious about conservation --- the film Kilowatt Ours is full of tips to get you started. If you go to www.kilowattours.org you can sign up for monthly e-mail tips and take their energy reduction challenge.
    2. Sign up for TVA’s Green Power program. (Contact Robert Lynn, 693-2272)
    3. Get an energy audit of your home (KUB Customer Service, 524-2911)

  4. SPREAD THE WORD:
    1. Help LEAF identify environmental/social justice lay leaders and/or ministers in other congregations. Let us know who you know.
    2. Purchase a copy of Kilowatt Ours and circulate it among your friends. Better yet, host a house party so people can discuss the film.

  5. PRAY: As Christians, we believe a prayerful approach will speak to individuals from varying denominations and political outlooks. As we work on these issues we should always be mindful that The Earth is the Lord’s (Psalm 24:1) LEAF recognizes that, as energy consumers, we are all part of the problem, but, as Christians, we are also a critical part of the solution.
