The Mission of the Club

The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

Meeting Location

DOE/OSTI
1 Science.gov Way
Oak Ridge, Tennessee  37830

Regular Meeting Times

2nd & 4th Thursdays of each month
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Membership Benefits

At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice:

  • Conducting meetings. Meetings usually begin with a short business session which helps members learn basic meeting procedures.
  • Giving impromptu speeches. Members present one-to two-minute impromptu speeches on assigned topics.
  • Presenting prepared speeches. One or two members present speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program manuals. Projects cover such topics as speech organization, voice, language, gestures, and persuasion.
  • Offering constructive evaluation. Every prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator who points out speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Developing effective leadership.  Members have the opportunity to serve as club officers, where they can develop their administrative and leadership skills in a positive, supportive environment.
