The purpose of the Prayer Ministry at WVCC is to help Christ’s Church be a “house of prayer” in accordance with Isaiah 56:7.

While encouraging people to pray, we don’t intend to do so just for the sake of praying, but to learn to communicate with God.

If we are to be useful instruments to our Father, we must be people of prayer - not only to discern His will and intercede for others, but to grow in relationship with Him.

Communication is vital to any relationship, but especially in learning to talk with our Maker who has the power to move heaven and earth in response to our cry.

Part of praying (like any conversation) is listening, and one  of the key ways we “hear from God” is prayerfully reading His Holy Word.

Praying scripture back to God is also an example Jesus left us,  therefore, we encourage studying the Bible as one of the means of talking to God.

We are a support system for the Church (locally as well as globally) as she carries out God’s two greatest commands - to love Him and to love others, and as she fulfills His great commission to share the gospel with others.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.--Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

We know that Jesus expects us to pray--as individuals and as a body.  Much emphasis is placed on prayer in the Bible, and we know that prayer is not just a duty, but a privilege and opportunity to unleash God's mighty power in the Church and in the world.

The Prayer Ministry team meets on Wednesday mornings to pray for the needs of the church as they are shared with us.  We also have the opportunity to thank God for answering many prayers!

We like to stay in tune with community and world events and encourage concentrated prayer efforts for special events (National Day of Prayer, International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, and various missionary efforts).

Special prayer services are held for our school children in the fall, and adults are encouraged to commit to regular prayer times for children.

Prayer needs can be submitted in a variety of ways, one of which is the roll call cards in the pews and bulletins.  These can be dropped in the prayer box at any time.  These are prayed about in the prayer room, and included on the prayer list, if indicated.  The team works closely with our pastor to maintain a list of immediate needs to be printed in the bulletin.

We welcome any ideas or concerns.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions, ideas, concerns, or comments you have!
