Henri Roca Henri J. Roca III, MD, DABHM, DAAFP, LMT, NCBMT, CCH

Dr. Roca discussed historical perceptions and current theories surrounding energy, and the implications for the future of an evolving 'One Medicine'.

Dr. Roca is a Diplomat of both the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Board of Holistic Medicine.   He serves on the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Complementary and Alternative Medicine Advisory Board.   He practices in New Orleans, LA, at Excelth Community Health Center and at the L.S.U. School of Medicine as the Section Chief for the Division of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.   Dr. Roca is the founder of the Wholistic Wellness Network.

Following Dr. Roca's keynote address, noted professionals gave concurrent presentations in two conference rooms, each with a focus on how the interplay between body, mind and emotions affects the conditions and treatment of Fibromyalgia and Heart Disease.

Ayurvedic & Western Holistic Approaches to Fibromyalgia

Valerie Whiting, OTRL, MS, LMT.

"Research suggests that many of those who suffer with fibromyalgia have a history of trauma, whether discrete trauma or the cumulative result of ongoing high stress creating a trauma response, in turn associated with depression and/or anxiety.   Western psychotherapy methods can be combined with Ayurveda, the ancient system of natural medicine from India.   This integrated approach resolves the underlying imbalances that give rise to the physical and emotional symptoms."

Dr. Roberson is an Ayurvedic consultant and practitioner and founder of the Ayurveda Center for Natural Healthcare in Oak Ridge TN.   Valerie Whiting teaches at UT-Chattanooga in the Occupational Therapy Program and practices bodywork and teaches yoga at the Ayurveda Center.   Ailene Radcliffe performs Ayurvedic massage and treatments and energy work at the Ayurveda Center.
